U2 Playing The Paradise? March 1, 2009
Though I’m not a huge fan of the band, I saw this and thought the possibility of this was pretty cool: U2, as a measure to promote their forthcoming album, may play a show at Boston’s Paradise Nightclub. For those who haven’t been to ‘The Dise’, it’s a small club located between Fenway and Allston on Comm Ave – akin to The Independent in SF, perhaps even smaller. The band has planned a few ’secret shows’, including an unannounced show at the top of the BBC building in London and a gig on the steps of an academic building at Fordham University in NY. They’ve also been booked on Letterman for 5 nights in a row, which has never been done before.
The story goes that the band got a major break in the Boston area in terms of their US popularity when they played a show at The Paradise in 1981 – you can grab that show here over Bit Torrent. For what it’s worth, it’s a pretty cool idea to have such a huge band playing such a small venue – Who’s got my extra?
UPDATE: Looks like the actual “secret show” spot is going to be the Somerville Theater in Davis Square on March 11. This place is a 900 seat venue that will make for a totally intimate place to take in the band. Have fun to you lucky souls who happen to get in!
