The End is Near for the Seattle PI – SF Chronicle up next? March 16, 2009
Near for most, here for some – News came in today that the Seattle Post-Intelligencer would print its final edition on Tuesday and go to a web only format. Essentially this is something that their parent company Hearst has been planning to do for some time, though a front was up that they were attempting to sell the paper. Yeah right – in this economy, who’s going to buy a local newspaper? Hahaha.
Another announcement cam in that the Raleigh, NC based News and Observer is slashing jobs from their newsroom in an effort to cut costs. they haven’t abandoned the paper yet, but we’ll see. This all comes on the heels that Hearst is also making major cuts form the SF Chronicle – time will tell if they give up the printing game too, and we’ll likely know very soon.
