Today in Technology: More Google Stuff – Google Wave Announced May 28, 2009

The newest idea from Google (out of the Sydney office nonetheless): Google Wave, a new communication tool that appears to incorporate Email and instant messaging.  Basically the premise of the tool as I understand it is the you can create a wave, like you’d create a conversation in Gmail, and let other people add content to the wave from various locations on the web (blogs, social media sites perhaps).

I’m not yet totally clear on how it will incorporate third party social media apps like Twitter and Facebook, but you’d think for it to gain market share as a communication platform, that will be in the scope of the product.  The tool appears to be web based and be somewhat of an ode to the new HTML 5 standards.  In any case, some of the screen shots look pretty cool in terms of an online ’social center’ with lots of interactive capabilities.  In any case, it appears very interesting and I’ll certainly be ready to play with it when it comes out.  For more on it and an interview with the creators, check out TechCrunch.  Have a look at some early screen shots:
