Today in Technology: Intel to Purchase Wind River Systems, Continue Mobile Processor Push June 4, 2009
Just saw this: Intel is acquiring Wind River Systems, the embedded chip manufacturer for $884 Million, or around $11.50 per share. Wind River’s technologies are seemingly everywhere – but perhaps most notably, their embedded OS runs the humanoid Honda robot Asimo. Their technology is also within lots of military communication devices and car communication technology.
For Intel on the flip side, the move represents a definite sign of the times, as computing becomes more mobile by the day – Intel’s moves reflect that paradigm shift. The acquisition of Wind River will only accelerate this move for the chip giant. The deal is expected to be finalized over the summer. Perhaps with the economy turning around, more acquisitions like this are inevitable?
